Bedale

The old Georgian market town of Bedale is approximately 2 miles away with a fantastic range of independent shops, pubs, and cafes.

Bedale has a Co-op, Tesco Express, and Spar, plus butchers, bakers, and greengrocers.

There is a leisure centre (Bedale Leisure Centre) with a swimming pool, sauna, gym, bookable courts, and fitness classes.

It has the only listed Leech House in the country and a harbour 70 miles from the sea! The Tourist Information Centre is at Bedale Hall (DL8 1AA) and is well stocked with leaflets on local and regional attractions.

St Gregory’s Church dates back to the 12th Century and has been named as one of Britain’s best. Bedale has a weekly market on a Tuesday and a craft fair in Chantry Church Hall.

There is also a car boot sale every Saturday morning in the park (opposite the church) provided the weather is not or has not been wet recently.

If you fancy a game of golf there is also a golf club who welcome visitors with a high-quality course. They have excellent facilities in their clubhouse with a comfortable lounge area overlooking the course and bar.

Bedale has a railway station which is on the Wensleydale Railway, an authentic heritage railway running from Scuton in the Vale of Mowbray to Redmire in the Yorkshire Dales. In addition to the regular services the railway hosts events and special trains throughout the year.

There is 2 hours of free parking in the Market Place in Bedale, for which you will need to display a parking disc in your window. These are readily available from the local shops and Tourist Information Centre. There are also two other car parks located at Bridge Street (DL8 2AB) and the Auction Mart (DL8 2AD) which are Pay and Display.
